Participants are guided safely by blind and low vision, lived experience facilitators who share their knowledge and stories to amplify the participant experience. Through a series of activities with darkness as the anchor, our facilitators help participants explore the power to be curious, to identify and validate strengths and unlock the potential to become consciously aware.
Stories have the power to create emotional connections between individuals. Sharing personal or organisational stories helps participants relate to each other and fosters a sense of inclusion and belonging. Shared experiences are an effective way to convey organisational values, purpose, and workplace culture.
Through anecdotes and narratives, our facilitators illustrate desired behaviours and challenge norms, making them more tangible and relatable to all participants. People are more likely to remember information when it is presented in the form of a story.
Incorporating storytelling into Dialogue workshops, participants retain key messages and concepts more effectively. Stories often involve imagination and creativity, which can stimulate innovative thinking in the workplace. Sharing stories of innovation or creative problem-solving can inspire others to innovate and generate new ideas.
Andy Martin is one of our inspiring Lived Experience Facilitators. He has worked with Dialogue in the Dark since 2017 and Andy is blind. Andy enjoys inviting participants into his world, helping them feel comfortable in the unknown and creating better understanding of life, work, and wellbeing as a blind person. When Dialogue in the Dark was first brought to Australia as an immersive installation, Andy started out as a tour guide. Andy’s openness to share his story of losing his sight provides a unique perspective of living through uncertainty, disruption and change with courage, humour, and curiosity.
Pree Singh one of our extraordinary Lived Experienced Facilitators for our Dialogue in the Dark workshops. She has worked with Dialogue in the Dark in Melbourne since 2017 and is legally blind. When the Dialogue in the Dark global phenomenon was first bought to Australia as an immersive installation, Pree started out as host in a customer service role. Her ability to connect with participants on an interpersonal level is authentic, as is her impact of sharing lived experience stories. Pree works with genuine care, kindness and openly shares her many stories of living with a disability particularly how she has adapted to be a mum to an energetic toddler.
Supporting the workshops are our team of sighted facilitators who are all highly experienced in facilitation, learning and immersive experiences.
